The action-filled RPG pinball game, Rollers of the Realm: Reunion, provides updates leading to its launch in 2022.

Time to warm up and get out your Super Mario skills, because this game is adding a whole new playstyle to the mashup it already accomplished.

Phantom Compass has been busy cooking up in the game labs with their upcoming release, Rollers of the Realm: Reunion. The team thought adding RPG mechanics to a pinball game was awesome and revolutionary for blending game genres, but what other genres could they possibly add to this mix? Platforming.

We already know Rollers of the Realm: Reunion offers much of what the first game did by creating four staple characters (the Knight, Rogue, Healer and Mage) who have their own skill trees and upgradeable gear. But Phantom Compass wants to add another layer of difficulty to the core of the pinball aspects. They want players to think about how there’s another layer of traditional pinball games, you can tilt a traditional pinball machine.

The latest trailer shows how players will have to roll their balls through platforms and manoeuvre their flippers to aid the ball to its destination while the shifting environment does everything it can to stop the player. It’s not just nasty goblins and tentacled beasts you’ll be up against, but the environment itself—and your platforming skills.

Another great addition to Rollers of the Realm: Reunion is the two-player cooperative mode. This adds to another level of stress because you must communicate with your comrade to effectively crush your enemies, platform through the stages and solve each puzzle. Each player is given control of one flipper to undertake these tasks by the way. Talk about adding more complexity to an intricate game.

The newly added feature of platforming doesn’t appear to be an obstacle that completely stumps players but diversifies the campaign storyline as well. By adding another layer of platforming, the player is always forced to stay on their toes and come up with new strategies.

Phantom Compass wants to elevate the static thinking behind pinball machines and present a game that can have rich storytelling and dynamic gaming with pinball mechanics at its roots. Everything that’s been shown about this game makes sense and makes you wonder why there aren’t more mashup games like this.

Rollers of the Realm: Reunion is currently set to launch in 2022 on Steam and the Epic Games Store.
