Rust October Update adds the Long-Awaited Mission System

The developer of Rust is looking to add its long-awaited mission system to its open-world survival game in its October update.

The Rust update is set to go live today on PC and will allow players to go up to NPC to accept missions from them in safe zones. Players will be tasked with completing a variety of activities which include catching fish, harvesting lumber, hunting sharks, or looking for treasure. After completing them, you can earn rewards which come in the form of scrap metal and treasure boxes.

“You can find mission providers at most safe zones and their tasks vary, from catching fish or harvesting lumber to hunting sharks and uncovering hidden treasure,” Facepunch Studios said in a statement. “You can have one mission at a time and they’re repeatable.”

Facepunch adds that this is just the start of the new mission system as it is pretty basic at this point, which will be expanded upon in the future. Right now, missions are only playable in solo mode, but co-op and PvP mode for missions is currently in the works. Mission types for PvP mode include delivery, ambush, and bounty-hunting, which will be added at some point down the line.

The update is limited to the mission system as the game is getting a new vehicle, the camper van. Four players can fit in the newly added road trip vehicle, which also includes room for storage and if you’re in a cooking mood, a barbecue. One cool feature of the camper van is that players can use it as a spawn point after claiming a seat. Players will be able to craft the camper module with a tier 2 workbench, 175 metal frags, and 125 wood.

Other small changes coming to Rust in the update include being able to hold down the interact key to open doors while wounded. having the option for auto-turrets to not shoot your friends and most importantly horses will poop more often in the game. Also, Halloween-themed events will be arriving on October 28th.
