Today, Sony Pictures Entertainment, along with Sam Mendes and Neal Street Productions, have announced a bombshell project, four huge biopics based on the legendary rock band The Beatles.

The new project has already been cleared by Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison. All of the legendary band’s tracks, as well as the full life story, have been granted for this groundbreaking project based on The Beatles, and each film will be made from each band member’s unique perspective, four in total. Sony Pictures Entertainment is set to finance the project, with Sam Mendes set to serve as director of all four of the biopics alongside his Neal Street Productions partner, Pippa Harris and Neal Street’s Julie Pastor.

Director Sam Mendes said, “I’m honoured to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, and excited to challenge the notion of what constitutes a trip to the movies” regarding the opportunity to tell The Beatles story. Neal Street Productions, Pippa Harris echoed the sentiment, saying, “We intend this to be a uniquely thrilling and epic cinematic experience: four films, told from four different perspectives, which tell a single story about the most celebrated band of all time,” with “To have The Beatles’ and Apple Corps’ blessing to do this is an immense privilege” on the prospect of the biopics.

Apple Corps is also elated with the project announcement, CEO Jeff Jones says “Apple Corps is delighted to collaborate with Sam, Pippa and Julie to explore each Beatle’s unique story and to bring them together in a suitably captivating and innovative way.” Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, Tom Rothman, agrees, saying, “I know I speak for our CEO Tony Vinciquerra, who was instrumental in making this happen, and every Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group colleague around the world when I say: ‘yeah, yeah, yeah!’” with “We are deeply grateful to all parties and look forward ourselves to breaking some rules with Sam’s uniquely artistic vision.”

With everyone seemingly on board with The Beatles biopic, it is in the incredibly early development stages, and outside of the information presented above, nothing else has been announced regarding the massive project. The projected release date is sometime in 2027, and fans can head to the Sony Pictures Entertainment website for the full release.
