At the latest Unpacked event taking place New York City, Samsung officially announced the Samsung Galaxy Note 9.  

D.J Ko taking the state at the event, after a teaser trailer about the Note family of products, started things off by outlining that there is “Nothing we and my team love more than creating the new note” Going on to say that “I love the note, because it forces us to break through barriers”

After a long preamble about connected devices and connected living, Ko announced the all-new Galaxy Note 9, with a new trailer that highlighted the new features users could expect when they finally get their hands on the device, including the new S Pen.

With Ko handing the stage to Drew Blackard, Samsung outlined what makes the Galaxy Note 9 so impressive, and a landmark for the Note brand. Boasting a 6.4-inch end-to-end display, and a diamond cut design that improves on an already amazing design of past design. The Note 9 will also come in four colours (Ocean Blue, Midnight Black, Lavender Purple) and now has a newly placed fingerprint sensor, just below the camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will include an all-day battery 4000mAh Battery, and will now start at 128GB of storage, with storage configurations going up to 512GB with the ability to expand the storage up to 1TB. The new 10nm Snapdragon 845 (Exynos 9810) processor promises unparalleled performance and network speeds up to 1.2GB/s.

Tim Sweeney took the stage to talk Fortnite and gaming on the Galaxy Note 9, announcing that the Android Beta launches this week, with Galaxy devices being the first people invited starting Today. Galaxy based devices will also gain access to an exclusive Fortnite Special Skin, Galaxy. Combine that with new AKG Tuned speakers, and a new cooling system, the Note 9 is built to be ready for the mobile gamer.

The Note 9 will boast a powerful intelligent camera that will adapt to your environment. With the aperture adjusting based on the light and setting you are trying to take photos of. The Camera will use scene recognition to optimize the colour tones to make the best images possible. The Note 9 will also alert users if there are issues or problems, to ensure if there is time to retake the precious moments.

The S-Pen will allow new features, including the ability to take photos without ever touching the phone its self. Now supporting Bluetooth low energy, making it the “Ultimate Remote Control.” You can now use it to play and pause youtube, capture snaps in Snapchat, or flip through slides in powerpoint. Samsung is also working with partners, along with opening up the SDK to app developers for them to implement it how they think works best. The S-Pen will also charge in less than a minute, and lasts 30 minutes. With it charging by simply being docked inside the phone.

Dex will also be back with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The PC like experience powered by the smartphone, with it no longer needing the expensive dock, and now works with a simple HDMI adapter. The phone also now allows you to use your phone as normal, even when doing work or watching video on Dex.

Samsung moved on to discuss the new Galaxy Watch, coming in two different sizes, a selection of straps, and a slew  AMOLED Display, Corning Gorilla Glass, and water-resistant. Built to be worn all day, coming with stand-alone LTE connectivity. Will also have the battery life to last several days on a single charge thanks to optimized chips at the core of the device.

The Galaxy Watch is also built to a focus on fitness and health, with a series of apps that help including sleep monitor, exercise trainer, and an app that helps with stress and breathing. The watch will also do all the things you want from a watch, such as tell the time, give you briefings on the news, and help with notifications.

The Samsung Note 9 and Galaxy Watch look to be impressive additions to the already impressive lineup of Samsung products. The 128GB Samsung Note 9 will cost $1299 CAD, while the 512GB model is priced at $1,629. Anyone who pre-orders the Note 9 between August 9th and August 23rd will also get a free pair of Samsung Gear IconX Headphones, normally retailing for 299.99. The Note 9 will ship August 24th, 2018 worldwide.
