Sega Is Cancelling Its ‘Super Game’ While Keeping Its Classic Reboots in Play

Reboots Are Still In The Works

Sega Promises Its Still Working On Classic Reboots Amid Cancelling 'Super Game'

Although there has been radio silence regarding the previously announced Sega reboots, the company has doubled down on their existence, while cancelling its self-touted ‘Super Game’.

Sega Sammy released financial results for the year ending March 31, 2026, and it spelled bad news. While net sales increased by 13.6%, operating income from its entertainment content (which includes video games) dropped by approximately $45 million since 2025. The company has concluded that this drop off is due to the recently acquired Rovio and Stakelogic having “soft” performance. Stakelogic was acquired in 2024, and Rovio in 2023, respectively. The financial reports show that both companies are responsible for reflecting a net loss of $31 million.

Due to this, Sega has announced that it is cancelling its anticipated “Super Game.” This is due to the weak performance of live service titles like Sonic Rumble Party. The Super Game was touted as the next big thing, and it would span multiple “triple-A titles that cross over Sega’s comprehensive range of technologies” and “go beyond the traditional framework of games”. Now, the team that worked on it have already been transferred to Full Game development teams, “focusing on mainstay IPs”.

Fans who are worried about the previously announced reboots of beloved franchises at The Game Awards 2023 are in luck. Since these reboots have been announced, the company has given fans little hope of their existence due to the constant radio silence, but today, fans can let out a sigh of relief. Sega has no plans to scrap these highly anticipated reboots, and since their official announcement, only Shinobi: Art of Vengeance has been released. This leaves Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, Golden Axe, and Streets of Rage without releases, yet.

Shinobi: Art Of Vengeance (Xbox Series X) Review

While the previously touted Super Game is no more, Sega has recommitted to its announced reboots. If they’re anything like the Shinobi reboot, fans are in good hands.
