Shang-Chi Sequel Has Been Pushed Back According To Star

Leading Actor for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Simu Liu, took to the newly launched Threads platform today for an AMA that gave unfortunate news for a sequel.

With the Meta Twitter competition fully launched as Threads, Simu Liu has taken to the new platform to give fans an opportunity at an AMA. Simu Liu first posted “really excited by the idea of non-toxic social media…anyone else?” before the AMA announcement on Threads, and unfortunately, the AMA contained information on the Shang-Chi sequel and its currently uncertain future.

Interestingly enough, near the beginning of the AMA, Simu Liu gave fans a glimpse into what kind of games he plays when fan Matthew Greyling asked, “When Halo Infinite came out, you pretended to play it at some awards show. Did you ever play it for real?” to which Simu Liu replied “…yeah I played it! really hated that it didn’t launch w split screen co-op though,” which shows Simu Liu misses Halo Infinite split screen as well.

The big piece of information comes when a different fan user, adam_goodwiny, asked, “What’s the status on Shang Chi 2?” Simu Liu said he “was told it would follow Avengers, but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control, 🙁 hope to have more concrete news to share soon” regarding the upcoming sequel. The sequel was confirmed way back in December 2021, and when it was announced that a sequel would happen, Director Destin Daniel Cretton was set to return for writing and directorial duties.

The next film in the MCU was set to be the upcoming Avengers: Kang Dynasty, so it remains to be seen as to what happens next. Simu Liu’s next film is the new Barbie film that co-stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, and it will land in theatres on July 21.
