Sonic Mania officially gets a release date for August 2017.
After an early release date was leaked late last week via Sonic Mania’s official Steam page, the internet was abuzz with debate, but Sega has come out and announced through their official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account, that Sonic Mania, will indeed be coming out this Aug. 15, 2017.
Sonic Mania is the highly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog game that promises to take gamers back to where it all began. Sonic Mania will feature retro style graphics, reminiscent of the Sega Genesis and Sega CD days of the early-to-mid 90s.
The side-scrolling retro-inspired title is in development by Headcannon, with Christian Whitehead at the helm of the project, a die-hard fan, turned developer, after Sega noticed his talents through some of his ROM hacks and fan games that he had put online prior.
Sonic Mania is currently available for pre-order digitally through Steam, the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Marketplace. The game is also receiving a physical collector’s edition when it launches this August.
