Sony PlayStation 4 & 5 Architect Sadly Retiring On October 1

The EVP of Hardware Engineering and Operation at Sony Interactive Entertainment, Masayasu Ito, is retiring on October 1st after five decades of Sony tenure.

What feels like directly after Sony decided to price hike the PS5 in almost all territories, and has been slapped with a £5 billion lawsuit in the UK, the man responsible for many of Sony’s hardware peripherals has decided to retire. Masayasu Ito was not only responsible for helping design the PS4, and PS5 consoles, he has had a large hand in the PSVR headset and the revision for the PS4 Pro.

The Sony Interactive Entertainment website has corroborated the move, with a loosely Google translated page that shows the company’s moves. With Masayasu Ito’s resignation, SVP of Finance, Corporate Development and Strategy at SIE, Lin Tao will serve as the new EVP of Hardware Engineering and Operation. The shoes left behind in Ito’s wake are cavernous to fill.

The PlayStation 4 to this day has sold a MASSIVE quantity of consoles, with 116.3 million sold as statista reports from July 2021. The PS5 has also seen huge success, even with the console being constantly understocked. Masayasu Ito describes the development process in a PlayStation Blog post back in October 2020, with the revelation that the latest console has been in development since 2015.

Inside the console is an internal structure looking neat and tidy, which means that there aren’t any unnecessary components and the design is efficient. As a result, we’re able to achieve our goal of creating a product with a high degree of perfection and quality.

In this teardown video of the PS5 console, you will be able to see how we have thoughtfully integrated our technology into this console.

Further, Ito showed his mastery over the internal components of the PS5 in a video dismantling the console, which can be seen below.
