Set The World On Fire, But Not Fallout

Guns of Eschaton Is a Strong FPS Soulslike That Brings on the Apocalypse

A new soulslike has been announced by publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment, and it’s called Guns of Eschaton, featuring a transformed American frontier.

Soulslike has been a genre defined by third-person action RPG gameplay, in which the player confronts near-impossible odds and dies repeatedly in pursuit of hard-won success. Publisher 4Divinity and developer Eschatology Entertainment have uncorked a mouldbreaker, a new type of Soulslike that will challenge the player in new ways and deliver a rich apocalyptic world based on the American frontier. Guns of Eschaton was the last labour lovingly crafted by the late Viktor Antonov, the art director and visionary behind Half Life 2 and Dishonored, and it embraces the frenetic, fast-paced action of those games while introducing something entirely different. The trailer can be seen below, courtesy of 4Divinity.

Guns of Eschaton sends players on a journey from the West to the East Coast through a dying, apocalyptic America. In this dystopia, every enemy encounter becomes a test of preparation, resource management, survival, and reaction speed. You will be put to the test. Players will learn to tackle enemy encounters (with specialized ammo), deploy precision parries, perform precise dashes, and use the Codex to succeed (like The Witcher 3‘s bestiary). The Codex reveals enemy weaknesses through what the developers are calling the Sequence Points system, and players will need to use everything at their disposal to triumph in Guns of Eschaton.

Studio Head at Eschatology Entertainment, Fuad Kuliev, said, “We are incredibly honoured to be revealing Guns of Eschaton, the final project shaped by the extraordinary vision of Viktor Antonov,” adding, ““From the earliest stages of development, I had the privilege of shaping this world together with Viktor: where ideas, themes, and concepts evolved through his talent into the world players will see today. Viktor’s imagination and creative legacy have been a constant source of inspiration throughout development, and this game is the result of an incredible collaborative effort from our entire team to bring that vision to life.” It’s safe to say the collaborative effort between the team and Antonov paid off; this creative vision is crossing the finish line.

Currently, Guns of Eschaton is listed for PC (via Steam), Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5. There is no concrete release date as of this post (and 4Divinity’s announcement), but fans can wishlist the game now with the promise that it’s coming soon.
