Pretty Much Dead Already

There have been more The Walking Dead spin-offs and titles than fans can keep count of, and today, GameMill Entertainment and AMC have announced The Walking Dead: Destinies.

While many video games exist based on the hit AMC series and Robert Kirkman’s legendary comic series, this new announcement allows players to rewrite the events of Seasons 1-4. This new title is the equivalent of the walker version of Marvel’s What If? spin-off series and the brief teaser trailer can be seen below.

The trailer reveals that player choice can prove fatal for characters that have ‘gone the distance’ in the AMC show. SPOILER ALERT For those who haven’t seen The Walking Dead Season Two, STOP HERE!

Characters like Jon Bernthal’s well-received portrayal of Shane is heavily featured in the trailer, as one of the characters the player can save with a decision (seeing as how he met his end at the hands of Rick at the end of Season Two). On the flip side, the paradoxical nature of The Walking Dead: Destinies sees Rick Grimes reanimate at the bloody conclusion of the trailer. It remains to be seen if Carl (pronounced Core-al) will be able to steel himself for that confrontation.

If fans can keep Shane alive, the whole story effectively rewrites itself. Beloved characters like Daryl Dixon, and Michonne are also present and accounted for, so the character dynamic will be an interesting one to watch unfold in The Walking Dead: Destinies. Despite the focus on rewriting the events of the hit series, the only main event present in the trailer is the Rick Grimes and Shane confrontation, so fans will have to wait to see what other events can transpire in this new look at The Walking Dead.

UPDATE [AUG 18]: The Walking Dead: Destinies Gameplay Information Leaked

A new report published by Dealabs (loosely translated by Google), a site with an excellent track record of data mining and leaks, posted some more information regarding the recently announced The Walking Dead title. In the information, the leak describes the available characters the player can put on their team, including previously unannounced characters like Daryl, Blackbird, Carol, Carl, Lori, Glenn, The Governor, and T Dog. Unfortunately, the fan-favourite Hershel has yet to be announced.

On top of characters, gameplay elements have also been reportedly revealed. Players can expect to wield Katanas, Revolvers, Shotguns, and more against the undead hordes. Considering the title takes place from Season one through four of the hit AMC series, fan-favourite Negan and his iconic barbed-wire bat weapon Lucille will likely not make it into Destinies.

Lastly, the leak suggests the release date will be November 14, and will cost fans $49.99. Although Dealabs has a proven track record of accurate leaks, fans should take all of this news with a grain of salt, even the release date, until a formal announcement is made from AMC or GameMill Entertainment.

The Walking Dead: Destinies has yet to receive a release date, but it will launch on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, Xbox One, and PC. Fans can follow the official The Walking Dead X account for more info on the series as it arrives.
