The Wheel of Time Series Gets a First Look and Release Date

A first look at the Amazon Prime Video adaptation of The Wheel of Time has been revealed via Entertainment Weekly, the series will be released later this year.

The new ‘world-spanning’ fantasy series is being described as the new Game of Thrones, the only difference the novel series was finished before this series started. The upcoming show is based on Robert Jordan’s best-selling novel series which is set in a fantastical world where magic exists, but only certain women can enter.

The Wheel of Time is being adapted as series by executive producer and series showrunner Rafe Judkins, who previously worked on ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Amazon Prime series will be helmed by Award-winning English actress Rosamund Pike, who will play Moiraine Damodred, the series’ lead heroine.

The full cast featured in the upcoming series is below:

  • Rosamund Pike as Moiraine Damodred
  • Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor
  • Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara
  • Zoe Robins as Nynaeve
  • Madeleine Madden as Egwene Al’Vere
  • Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon
  • Daniel Henney as Lan Mandragoran
  • Kae Alexander as Min Forshaw
  • Michael McElhatton as Tam al’Thor
  • Alvara Morte as Logain Ablar
  • Juliet Howland as Natti Cauthon
  • Christopher Sciueref as Abell Cauthon
  • Lolita Chakrabarti as Marin al’Vere
  • Michael Tuahine as Bran al’Vere
  • Alexandre Willaume as Thom Merrilin
  • Johann Myers as Padan Fain

The official synopsis of The Wheel of Time describes it will follow Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai. After arriving in the small town of Two Rivers, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women. One of which is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

While no trailer has been released, Entertainment Weekly released a first look at the series for anyone interested in the series. If a trailer was to release, it’s very likely it may happen at next week’s Cinemacon with Sony, which is producing the Amazon Prime adaptation, scheduled for a three-hour presentation at the event.

The Wheel of Time is set to stream its first six-episode season sometime this November on Amazon Prime Video.
