Whitethorn Games has announced that its new title, The Forest Cathedral, will be coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC first this fall.
The first-person psychological thriller is “a unique interpretation of the events surrounding real-life scientist Rachel Carson’s investigation of the harmful pesticide known as DDT.” Developed by Brian Wilson, and published by Whitethorn Games, the story takes place in a forest on a remote island. Taking on the role of Rachel, you will soon realize that things aren’t as they appear. Completing puzzles using “advanced environmental technology”, players will uncover the awful side effects of pesticide use.
The game uses both 2D platforming and 3D exploration. “Games like The Forest Cathedral don’t come around too often,” said CEO of Whitethorn Games, Dr. Matthew White. “Its blend of 2D and 3D gameplay and the fact that it’s based on a true story makes it truly unique. We’re thrilled to be a part of it, and to have our own Brian Wilson developing the game makes it all the more exciting!”
Key features of The Forest Cathedral include:
- Hey, Little Man: Switch control between Rachel Carson in the 3D world and the Little Man inside the 2D world of her advanced environmental scanning tools in order to solve puzzles and platforming challenges
- Nature in Peril: Explore a meticulously crafted forested island, dense with trees, animals, fish, and insects, all impacted by the dangerous effects of DDT
- The Sound of the Silence: The game features a fully voiced narrative to invest players in the harrowing history of the attempted silencing of Rachel Carson, backed by an enchanting original soundtrack
Whitethorn Games has a tendency to take on educational games, after their recent release of APICO, a beekeeping simulator that stretches your biology muscles. Developer Brian Wilson shared his hopes for The Forest Cathedral: “My hope is that sharing my interpretation of the events preceding it will bring more attention to the important work Rachel Carson did, while also offering a unique experience that will stick in people’s memories.”
The Forest Cathedral will release first on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam this Fall. To keep up to date, follow Whitethorn Games on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitch, or by joining the official Discord.
