XBOX continues to find itself in the news for many reasons, and today, reports allege the company is bringing much more of the XBOX 360 to PC than just Fuzion Frenzy.
After staying in the news following a particularly egregious number of layoffs, XBOX continues to make headlines. Earlier last week, the company released its Q4 earnings report, which showed Microsoft as a whole grew a whopping 18%, but XBOX fell short of expectations. That being said, XBOX has confirmed its commitment to gaming in several statements since the layoffs, including a new announcement that it would bring back its older titles for PC players.
While the original announcement revealed BLiNX: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy, a new report from The Verge has revealed that XBOX may be bringing some of the Xbox 360 catalogue to PC. A leaked document sent to developers shows that Microsoft may be planning to allow its previously released XBOX 360 games to be purchased and played on PC. Considering the slate of original XBOX games that have made it this month, it would be the gradual next step. The XBOX 360 backwards compatibility will reportedly be available on XBOX-compatible PCs, Microsoft’s upcoming Project Helix, and handheld devices (like the XBOX ROG Ally).
The leaked XBOX 360 document also provided details for the disc-to-digital program that previous reports said was in testing at Microsoft. It will reportedly allow owners of XBOX One and XBOX Series X game discs to obtain a digital license for the game across XBOX devices, and that digital license will allegedly extend through full libraries, letting fans digitize their entire physical stock.
That feature will reportedly roll out between 2027 and 2028 “across next-gen devices” and will feature new functionality (like new achievement lists for the already added XBOX titles) for the games added. The leak also states that the full launch of backward compatibility for original XBOX games on PC will be coming in October, meaning the four games currently available should soon be joined by more in the Fall.
