Nintendo has revealed in a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 focused Direct presentation that the upcoming third entry is getting a $30 Expansion Pass.

The pass includes a road map, and the main thing players will be excited about is the “Brand-New Story Scenario” which will release sometime in 2023.

Nintendo Switch owners picking up the game and expansion pass will get four waves of content, including on launch day—helpful items and outfit colour variants. In two separate releases, Expansion Pass players will also get a challenge battle, new hero character/quests, and new outfits, first coming later this year and again in April 2023. The last wave is the previously mentioned story expansion releasing by December 31st 2023. A visual of the full road map is listed below.

The 20-minute direct gave players anticipating Xenoblade Chronicles 3 a better idea of the RPG’s story including a more focused look at the game’s six main characters and their character classes in the game. The full list of classes includes Swordfighter, Zephyr, Medic Gunner, Tactician, Heavy Guard and Ogre which players can change and level up as they play through the game.

As a part of the presentation, we also got a deep dive into Xenoblade Chronicles 3‘s large open world and the enemies you will be encountering along the way. The Nintendo Direct also revealed the game will come with fast travel, quest routes and the ability to change time. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 will also be compatible with amiibos. For example, players that own the Shulk figure can tap it during the game to use the Monado sword from the very first Xenoblade Chronicles game.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3‘s story where players will play as protagonists Noah and Mio “amid turmoil between the hostile nations of Keves and Agnus.” Nintendo says the upcoming game will tie together the futures of the worlds as seen in Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was officially slated for September but in an unpredictable move Nintendo ended up deciding to push up the Nintendo Switch game’s release to July 29th, giving players less time waiting to play the third entry.
