For fans of the Nintendo 64 masterpiece Banjo-Kazooie, there was an astronomical amount of hype for Yooka-Laylee. After all, it was seen as the spiritual successor to the game, as well as being developed by former members of Rare. Unfortunately, when it was released in April, there were several issues with the game that many review sites documented. It seems Playtonic Games has been listening to all these complaints, as they have just announced plans for the game’s first update.
In what they are dubbing “spit ‘n’ polish,” the upcoming update to Yooka-Laylee will address some of the most requested features and general improvements to the game. On their website, Playtonic mentions how this will include the ability to skip dialogue at an accelerated rate, bypass cutscenes altogether, a reduction of the voices and an overall polish to the design.
However, the most noteworthy issue they are going to address is the subpar camera controls. In short, the camera will be altered to operate in an entirely different way. Playtonic even displayed a GIF of what players can expect from the new and improved camera. It is still unclear when this update will officially commence, but they do make a note that fans can expect a more detailed analysis of the alterations in the coming weeks.
Also, for those who are dying to finally play Yooka-Laylee on the Nintendo Switch, Playtonic assures everyone that they are working as fast as they can to produce it. But, alongside this update, there was not an updated timetable on when this could be.
If the current issues with the game are addressed in a positive way with this upcoming update, Yooka-Laylee could end up being one of the best games of the year.
