Logitech Zone Wireless 2 Headset

Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

As someone who spends the vast majority of my day on the phone, I have been on the hunt for a wireless headset that can get through the day and not be terribly uncomfortable. The Logitech Zone Wireless 2 is that exact headset. I had the chance to give it a go for the last two weeks, and I couldn’t be more impressed.

First things first, the unboxing. To be frank, the box that the Zone Wireless 2 comes in is very understated. I’m used to seeing boxes from the likes of Razer, SteelSeries and HyperX with the extravagance of the occasion. None of that was on display here, and I don’t mind it. The box has the headset itself, a lovely carrying pouch with a zipper, two dongles (one USB-C and one USB-C to USB-A), a USB-C charging cable and the quick start guide. Nothing more, nothing less.

As for the headset itself, I received the Graphite colour, but it is also available in Off-White and Rose. I absolutely love the Graphite. It’s neutral enough to feel like just another tool to be used in the office while remaining different enough to stand out against the blacks and very dark greys that my desk consists of. Simple elegance is my taste, and if you’ve read some of my other writings, you’d recognize that the Zone Wireless 2 fits that mantra perfectly.

My day job consists of a lot of phone calls and a very noisy environment, so having Active Noise Cancelling is almost a must-have for any kind of headset aimed at the office professional. It is with this statement in mind that the Zone Wireless 2 really shines. There are a lot of inner workings at play with the Zone Wireless 2 that help make the noise-cancelling some of the best I have used, bar none.

“There are a lot of inner workings at play with the Zone Wireless 2 that help make the noise-cancelling some of the best I have used, bar none. “

To begin with, there are four noise-cancelling mics built in to capture the sounds around you and shut them out of your ears. Combine that with AI-based noise suppression and hybrid ANC, and the Zone Wireless 2 all but removes you from your noisy environment. The hybrid ANC is particularly good as it offers a high and low mode to give you the ability to hear a bit of what’s going on around you or none of it at all.

I had a hard time believing that the Zone Wireless 2 was noise-cancelling when I first saw them, as the headset is what is considered an “on-ear” headset, which is different from the gaming headset I am used to like the Razer Kaira Pro or Nacon RIG 900 Max HX as they are both considered “over-ear” headsets and make more sense to be noise-cancelling. My worries were quickly dashed, however, when I put the Zone Wireless 2 on for the first time and turned it on. I was treated to not only a plush and comfortable ear cushion, but the noise-cancelling kicked on right away, and I was quickly transported to the realm of quiet.

Speaking of comfort, the Zone Wireless 2 is a delight to wear every day. At no point did I experience any kind of discomfort or pain when using the headset for an extended period of time. The plush and breathable material used around the ear cushions and headband never made my ears feel sweaty or uncomfortable.

“…the Zone Wireless 2 is a delight to wear every day…”

A lot of office-based headsets limit the user to having the microphone on one side, and that’s it. The Zone Wireless 2 offers the user the freedom to choose which side they want the mic on by allowing the mic to slide down on either side or by flipping the headset around the wear on the other side. This also dictates what side the volume controls are on as well, so if the mic is on your right, then the volume controls will be on the left, and vice-versa.

The volume controls themselves are simple to use and easy to find. Simply swipe one finger up or down on the ear cap opposite the mic arm to raise or lower the volume. This is a great feature as it frees up room with the other controls from having a volume wheel or buttons in the way. And while on the topic of button controls, the bare minimum is delivered, and I say that as a good thing. The Zone Wireless 2 offers a power button, an ANC button, and a Microsoft Teams/phone button. The result of this is a non-cluttered, easy-to-navigate experience.

I mentioned Microsoft Teams in the paragraph above, and for good reason. The Zone Wireless 2 is certified for use with the Microsoft Teams program and is also compatible with other office communication software such as Google Meet, Zoom, and Google Voice. Even pressing the Teams button brings the program to the front of your screen, which I thought was a neat feature, especially as someone who constantly forgets where it is on my three-monitor setup.

“On the whole, the Zone Wireless 2 is a brilliant headset, and any office professional should be happy to use it…”

Battery life is a bit of a mixed bag here. The Zone Wireless 2 offers roughly 15 hours of talk time when ANC is engaged and 22 hours of listening time. For me, this meant I could get through 2 full days in the office without needing to charge. By the end of the second day, I’d get a notification in my ear saying “Battery Low,” and I’d know to charge it up for the next shift. If that doesn’t appeal, then the charging cable can be plugged into your computer and used as a wired headset.

One small feature I love is that when you turn the headset on, it tells you your battery percentage. So, I turned it on after the first day of use and got a pleasant notification saying “Battery: 60%”. It’s a quality-of-life feature at best, but I love it.

On the whole, the Zone Wireless 2 headset is a brilliant device, and any office professional should be happy to use it, but there is a small caveat, and that comes with the price. There’s no getting around it, so the price is $339.99 CAD. That’s a lot of money, and while I do think it’s worth the money, I can absolutely understand the notion that it’s very close to being cost-prohibitive. That, however, is in the eye of the beholder, so do what you will with that info. I can happily recommend the Zone Wireless 2 and will continue to use it at work daily.
