With the trend of both Android and Apple smartphones lacking a headphone jack, it is no wonder the Bluetooth headset market is heating up. With that in mind, it’s no wonder Razer is jumping head first into this sector with the Hammerhead BT, a new set of headphones that radiate Razer style while also working as fantastic earbuds for the gamer on the go.

Now, before we go any further, it should be noted, that while I personally love the Razer black and green aesthetic, this is clearly not for everyone. It is a look that fits well with the gaming lifestyle, and even the fitness way of life, although I can’t imagine someone wearing these as they do yoga in the park.

With that all being said, Razer built a set of headphones that scream quality. The black and green flat cable connects the two metal ear buds. The middle of the cord is equipped with a magnetic clip that fits well onto a t-shirt or workout shirt well. During my routine exercises, the earbuds never came off. Though the clip ensures some stability while wearing the Razer Hammerhead BT earbuds, it does mean they are much heavier than many headsets while wearing them around town. As with many corded Bluetooth headphones, they also include an easy access inline remote that will allow you to start and stop your music, as well as turn the volume up and down. There is also an inline mic to ensure even when on the go you won’t need to take out your phone to take a call.

The setup for the Razer Hammerhead BT is surprisingly easy. While set in pairing mode, the normally green Razer logo will glow red, giving a clear indication they are ready to be setup to your phone or other mobile devices. From there simply connect them within the Bluetooth menu on your device and you are ready to rock (literally).

Now, if you are buying headphones, you really care about the sound. The Razer Hammerhead BT come with a 10 mm driver with a frequency range of 20 Hz – 20 kHz, an Impedance of 32 ± 15% Ω and a sensitivity of 116 ± 3 dB @ 1 kHz. In real world experience, they sound good, I would even go so far as to say very good. This all comes with the caveat that this is still Bluetooth, and as such it does not have the richness I have found in some other wired options, but for casual listing, while working out at the gym, mobile gaming, or even just music as you work, they are fantastic. For the audiophile in your life, they may not be quite up to the task, but you would not be looking for wireless headphones for that person either.

The battery on the headset was much better than I was expecting. I managed to get a full work day’s use with ease (around 7 hours), with a bit of power for the trip home. They are good at alerting you when they need a charge, and only require a quick two-hour charge or so, meaning I was good for my nightly workout after a dinner after letting them re-juice after a day’s worth of use. These may not be ideal for an overseas flight that takes over 8 hours, but for standard use these are more than sufficient.

I was impressed with the Razer Hammerhead BT; they quickly become my go to headphones while working out, and I even used them for some of my mobile gaming. Also, the comfort made them a great option for when I just wanted to listen to music while doing some work in the office. For the price range, these are some of the best feeling, best sounding headphones I have tried. They are headphones I would happily buy for personal use, and would recommend to anyone who does not mind the “gamer look” and loves the quality Razer offers. Razer Hammerhead BT headset is a fantastic offering to the segment, and I look forward to seeing what Razer comes out next in the realm of audio.

Final Thoughts:

A solid set of Bluetooth headphones that have a nice splash of quality and style for the gamers on the go.
