In the trailer, posted to Nintendo’s YouTube channel, several iconic Super Mario characters including Mario, Yoshi and Bowser replace Minecraft’s Steve. Even some Donkey Kong characters make an appearance as character costumes.
From Princess Peach’s iconic castle in Super Mario 64 to Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine, this texture pack demonstrates that players will be able to create the open-world Mario of their dreams in Minecraft.
The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack includes 40 Super Mario costumes, 15 music tracks from Super Mario 64 and Super Mario textured blocks and items. Also included is a Super Mario-themed world to explore.
“Both the Super Mario franchise and Minecraft embrace the magic of exploration and discovery,” said Steve Singer, Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Publisher & Developer Relations. “Players will have a great time adventuring and creating in this free game update that embraces the unique and memorable elements of both franchises.”
Minecraft: Wii U Edition’s Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will be available as a free update on May 17. For those holding out for the retail version of Minecraft: Wii U Edition, the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack will be included on the disc when it releases on June 17.
