The 24th annual SAG (Screen Actor’s Guild) Awards was a night of firsts as well as a night for recognizing longstanding achievement.

The biggest winner of the night was the film, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which took home three SAG awards, and is generating some significant Oscar buzz. The film tells the story of a mother trying to solve her daughter’s murder.

Kristen Bell, became the first ever host in SAG awards history, and stressed the importance of the accomplishment, one that she believes speaks volumes of the future of the film industry.

“We are living in a watershed moment and as we march forward with active momentum and open ears, let’s make sure we are leading the charge with empathy and diligence,” Bell said. “Because fear and anger never win the race.”

On the acting front, Sterling K. Brown became the first African-American male to win the SAG award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series. for his role in This is Us. The show also took home the win for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Actress Louis-Dreyfus, missed the show as she continues to battle breast cancer, but that didn’t stop her from making history. She not only won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series, but she also became the most decorated winner in SAG history with eight wins.

Morgan Freeman received a lifetime achievement award and kept his acceptance speech short, while also managing to quiet down a loud audience member and call out the male specific features of the SAG trophies.

The next big awards show, the Oscars takes place on March 4, 2018.
