Ark: Survival Evolved is Clawing Its Way Onto Nintendo Switch 1

Studio Wildcard has announced that Ark: Survival Evolved is coming out of extinction and onto Nintendo Switch this fall.

The developer announced the news at Epic Games’ “State of Unreal” keynote at the Game Developers Conference. (GDC) The Nintendo Switch version of Ark: Survival Evolved features all of the content released thus far on other platforms including more than 100 prehistoric creatures.

Ark: Survival Evolved is a prehistoric survival game that takes place on the titular Ark island. The core gameplay involves exploring the island, crafting items and fighting to survive along the way. On top of fighting for survival, you can also tame and breed the dinosaurs you face, as well as build structures for you and your online friends.

Co-Creative Director Jeremy Stieglitz says that the Switch it a great landing spot for the game and that, “the Switch’s handheld mode provides a fantastic new capability for survivors who want to fully immerse themselves in the vast worlds of ARK.” He went on to say that “players can go directly from hunting and taming while sitting on the couch, to forming online tribes and searching out new conquests when on the bus, waiting in line, or wherever they happen to be.”

Studio Wildcard also announced that they will be bringing the game to mobile devices in the future as well. The mobile port is currently in closed beta, with the first wave of invitations already sent out.

Ark: Survival Evolved originally launched on Steam Early Access in June of 2015 and has since been played by over 13 million players. The full game was released on August 29th, 2017 on PlayStation 4, XBox One and Steam. The game received mixed reviews and is currently sitting at a 69 on review aggregate site Metacritic.
