Lucca Comics & Games sold 314,200 tickets to their 2023 event, making it one of the largest events in fantasy and games all year. If you missed out this year, there is good news. Lucca Comics & Games has announced next year’s dates: October 30-November 3, 2024!
CGMagazine was lucky to attend this year, and there was an incredible amount of people there, even in 5 days of constant rain. Streets were wall-to-wall with attendees (and sometimes umbrellas) exploring the historic city. Tents were packed with people snatching up the latest tabletop gear. Cosplay was out in full force. Epic churches and theatres were filled with people watching on as celebrities like Joe Manganiello, Frank Miller, Naoki Urasawa, and more took the stage.

Celebrity Sightings!
Lucca Comics & Games brought some massive names in comics, manga, television and tabletop all the way to Italy to celebrate with fans. We were lucky enough to interview Joe Manganiello and sit in on conversations with the likes of Peter Adkinson from Wizards of the Coast, Garth Ennis, the writer behind The Boys and Preacher, Naoki Urasawa, manga artist of Monster and Frank Miller, the mind behind Daredevil and more.
Booths & Shopping
Like any good convention, Lucca Comics & Games has tents set up all over the city dedicated to buying new comics, tabletop gear, action figures, and so much more. This year, Lucca featured massive booths from Prime Video, Netflix, Bandai Namco, Funko and others. In the games area, we also got to jump into some tabletop gaming, learn new games, and watch artists create pieces live for charity! Here is a bit of what we saw on offer.
History, History & More History!
What stands out at Lucca Comics & Games above all else is the constant reminder that you are standing in a historical walled-in city. Whether you’re listening to talks about food and comics in the stunning San Romano, talking Magic: The Gathering in Atelier Ricci, or chatting about comics in the Teatro del Giglio, you are always somewhere full of story. And Umbrella Italian Division
Of course, there are always areas that stand out at a festival. This year, Umbrella Italian Division made a scene as they set up shop in the historic town of Lucca. “Umbrella Italian Division brings its figures to fairs, private events, on video and photographic sets. Great attention is paid to costume design and make-up, to perfectly reproduce the uniforms, make-up and details characteristic of the characters from the films and video games of the saga.” See for yourself!
