PlayStation Announces Backbone One Mobile Controller and PS5 Beta

PlayStation made some big announcements today with the new PlayStation 5 (PS5) Beta and its new iPhone mobile controller, the Backbone One.

We have seen mobile controller after mobile controller here at CGMagazine, and more often than not, they are licensed for Xbox. Today, the company announced the Backbone One, an officially licensed mobile controller for iPhone users. Modelled after the popular DualSense wireless controllers, it will fit right in with any of your other PS peripherals like the Pulse 3D headset.

Something to note that sets the Backbone One apart from other mobile controllers is that with your iPhone, you can play your PS4 or PS5 games through the PS Remote Play App.

Backbone One – PlayStation Edition is an officially licensed mobile controller for iPhone users.

  • Design: Brought to life in a wonderful collaboration with the brilliant minds at PlayStation, the elegant colours, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, all the way down to the transparent face buttons and its visually distinctive, floating appearance
  • Features: Allows for broadband internet access so that you can instantly start playing your PlayStation 4 and 5 games on the go or right at home, and connect seamlessly with other products in the PlayStation 5 line up, like the Pulse 3D headset, which you can connect directly to the Backbone One -PlayStation Edition.
  • Software: Backbone One works wonderfully with App Store games and other game streaming services that support controllers, including Genshin Impact, Fantasian, Call of Duty: Mobile, and more.
  • The App: Inside the app, you’ll see various PlayStation integrations, such as custom glyphs representing the iconic PlayStation shapes and the ability to browse hundreds of game titles.

Alongside the new controller, the company released details regarding the PS5 Beta. This beta includes creating up to 15 gamelists with up to 100 games per list. PlayStation users will also be able to view their party member’s gameplay by request.

A note to those hoping to take part in the PlayStation 5 Beta, “While beta access is limited to invited participants in select countries*, our goal is to bring these updates to our global community later this year. If you’re selected to participate in the beta, you’ll receive an email invitation when it’s available to download today. As always, some features available during the beta phase may not make it into the final version or may see significant changes.”
