Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Set to Release on October 28th

Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2—a sequel to the 2019 Modern Warfare near-future reboot of the Call of Duty sub-series—is set to launch on October 28th. The publisher did not detail which specific platforms the shooter is releasing on.

The launch date was revealed in an artwork reveal trailer in a real-life setting at the Port of Long Beach, Los Angeles with a big cargo ship going through the water. The noticeable aspect of the ship is that it features Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 artwork on its deck in an overhead shot. The team that produced “one of the biggest-in-sheer-size entertainment advertisements of all time” with the trailer, manoeuvred a massive cargo ship containing a 90,000 square foot Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wrap prominently displaying the art of the upcoming game.

That’s not all though as the trailer also sees drone shots of cargo containers featuring the artwork of the game’s cast of characters which includes Captain John Price, Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley, John ‘Soap’ MacTavish, and more. There is a quick shot of cargo that features text that says ‘J-8-22’ which possibly relates to June 8th, 2022, hinting we’ll get an actual look at the game on that day. The final moment of the video sees the cargo ship docking at the port which the artwork lines up with another piece of artwork on the mainland giving fans a massive full portrait look at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s artwork.

“Task Force 141 makes its massive return with a global squad of iconic veterans. These Operators include Captain John Price, Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley, John ‘Soap’ MacTavish, Kyle ‘Gaz’ Garrick and introducing Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas,” Activision said in a press release detailing the game’s characters.

The launch date news for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 follows the official reveal of the game’s logo from last month. The game is being developed by Infinity Ward who last worked on the first iteration of the reboot series and has contributed to Warzone; plus its upcoming sequel.
