Cyberpunk 2077 Gets Surprise Romance and Metro System Upgrades in Patch 2.1

CD Projekt Isn't Done Yet

Cyberpunk 2077's Surprise 2.1 Update Adds New Romance Hangouts, Metro System, and More

Hot off the heels of the 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty, CD Projekt Red is bringing even more changes to Cyberpunk 2077.

Announced during a CD Projekt Redstreams presentation, update 2.1 is bringing some surprisingly big additions to the game and launches on December 5 alongside the game’s Ultimate Edition.

The biggest change is new hangouts for romance options. In the original game, once you completed a romance character arc, there wasn’t much else to do outside of exchanging text messages. This is a much-requested addition by fans that should help flesh out the romances in Cyberpunk.

Past that, the metro system seen around Night City will finally be fully usable. Players can use 19 different metro stations as fast travel points or watch the whole ride play out. Interestingly, in 2021, a fan mod was released that made the metro system work.

“Our direction when what we wanted to was to make sure players have a way to really be in the world and have an immersive way to travel through the world,” said director Pawel Sasko.

The other major change coming is boss fight improvement, particularly for the Adam Smasher fight near the end of the game. Players have found ways to beat the fight easily, which was supposed to be a climax in the story, so it seems like CD Projekt wanted to address that.

While those are the major changes, there’s a lot more coming in Patch 2.1, so here’s a quick overview of everything else detailed.

  • Portable radio to listen to music outside of vehicles
  • Ability to repeat street racing activities
  • Improved motorcycle mechanics (wheelies and tricks)
  • New car chases
  • New vehicles and motorcycles
  • New accessibility settings
  • Full DualSense support on PC

This surprise update contributes to the already massive comeback Cyberpunk 2077 has had this year. CD Projekt has completely turned the game around, leading to nominations at The Game Awards for Best Ongoing Game and Best Community Support.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
