Darkest Dungeon II Unveils A New Game Mode: Kingdoms For Late 2024

Red Hook Studio has announced a new game mode for Darkest Dungeon II, Kingdoms, a free content coming in late 2024 for PC (Via Steam and Epic Game Store).

Darkest Dungeon II’s new game mode, Kingdoms, challenges players as they must race against the clock to defeat the threats of monsters before they can destroy the kingdom, a network of safe haven inns. Embark on a journey to collect resources and fight enemies across the land, and upgrade your hero and inns with the resources gathered that could be further improved through extensive upgrade trees. With the players taking on the daunting task of defending the kingdom, they will fight against three new monster factions: The Coven, Beastmen, and Crimson Courtiers.

With how massive the update is, players can sigh in relief that Kingdoms game mode will be free and can be played independently of Darkest Dungeon II’s original game mode, Confession. The new mode will blend some elements and roster management from the original Darkest Dungeon with the traversal and combat from Darkest Dungeon II.

If you are unfamiliar with Darkest Dungeon II, it is a sequel to the gothic roguelike turn-based Darkest Dungeon, released in 2016. Darkest Dungeon II follows the player’s journey through five campaigns, known as Confession, with each path having its terrifying boss and mechanics to avert the apocalypse in the decaying land. The game features 12 playable heroes, with two additional heroes, the Duelist and the Crusader, available via DLC called The Binding Blade. The other features include The Altar of Hope as a metagame progression hub, 10 companion pets with different properties, and difficulty modifiers of equipable items that provide fewer or more challenges.

The free Kingdoms update will be released in late 2024 for Darkest Dungeon II for PC on Steam and Epic Game Store. In the meantime, Darkest Dungeon II is available for 33% off and The Binding Blade DLC for 10% off as part of a Steam Sale celebrating the Triple-i Initiative’s first video game showcase event.
