Dead Space 2 Rumours Have "No Validity" According To EA

Rumours swirling around a potential new Dead Space title have been marching around the internet since last evening, and EA has responded to the claims with bad news for series fans.

Late last evening, Dead Space 2 was in the news due to new rumours about whether EA had plans to remake the sequel or create a brand new title instead. These rumours came from the Giant Bomb YouTube channel, and on Game Mess Mornings, speaker Jeff Grubb claimed EA Motive was working on design concepts for the title before ultimately placing the development on the shelf following disappointing sales. As a spokesperson from EA told IGN, this report was shot down, “We don’t normally comment on rumours, but there is no validity to this story.”

The latest report on the topic comes from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, and that report paints another perspective. The report suggests the news that the tile has been shelved happened last week, but EA made the decision as early as last spring, according to “people familiar with the project.” This was allegedly due to the company missing sales expectations surrounding the latest Dead Space remake, said the same sources.

The Dead Space remake was launched in January 2023, and afterwards, EA Motive supposedly spent months coming up with new ideas for the next entry in the horror sci-fi series, but those ideas never came to fruition. Since then, EA Motive has reportedly moved past the next entry in the series and is developing two new titles.

An official EA Motive update from GM Patrick Klaus confirms Dead Space 2 is not being worked on by them (at least for now), with the statement, ” I’m proud to share more news on how we maintain our long-term strategy of two world-class game teams developing projects side by side.” The announcement says the two new titles EA Motive is working on are a new Iron Man project and a new Battlefield title.

This is ultimately sad news for sci-fi horror fans, as the only thing these new rumour-squashing reports have confirmed is Dead Space is currently collecting dust on the shelf. CGMagazine will update readers on the future of EA Motive when more information comes out.
