Doom And Doom II No Longer Require Bethesda.net Accounts

The Bethesda.net login that gated the modern releases of Doom and Doom II have been patched out, with another update to follow.

Three weeks ago, Bethesda released a trio of classic Doom games on modern consoles without warning. What should have been a joyous occasion was marred by a mandatory login to a Bethesda.net account for the games to be functional.

That is now gone, as Bethesda has patched out this misguided requirement in Doom and Doom II. The prompt still appears, but Bethesda has added the option to bypass entering an email address. Additionally, there’s no more disconnection notification while playing. It seems as though these 25-year-old games are finally fixed – the bugs coming from their new status as Unity games notwithstanding.

Doom, Doom II, Doom 3, and the DOOM reboot are available on all modern consoles, and Doom 1 and 2 are on mobile devices as well. Doom Eternal is almost upon us, so with these ports properly playable again, it’s a great time to be a Doom fan.
