Brutalist Review Style (Version 2)

A fantastic laptop gives you the option to do anything on the go. From gaming to editing to just answering an email, a world of opportunity at the touch of your fingertips. The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 gaming laptop is exactly that, offering top-of-the-line performance across all fronts. Everything is smooth and responsive, while giving you tons of power to get things done.

The Zephyrus line is known for its portability and form factor: a light and thin laptop despite its punch. That does come with some drawbacks, like fans that can get loud. It all comes with a premium price tag, but for those who are looking for a powerful and light companion, the ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 edition is the way to go.

The ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 comes packing an Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor 386H 2.1GHZ on the new Series 3 Panther Lake architecture. It has 16 cores and 16 threads, giving players tons of space for brand new games for years to come. Backing it up is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 series, with the review unit using an RTX 5090 (24GB GDDR7). It also supports frame generation, using DLSS 4.5 with Multi Frame Generation that helps the GPU hit higher targets without much, if any, input lag.

The ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 gaming laptop was able to handle anything I threw at it. Forza Horizon 6 was a stable 60fps running on Ultra settings with ray tracing on. DEATH STRANDING 2: On the Beach was similar, running at 60fps at full settings. Both look stunning, with clear reflections and gorgeous lighting. Blacks were deep, and environments were detailed without sacrificing resolution.

The Zephyrus uses a combination of cooling techniques, including liquid metal applied to the CPU, tri-fan technology, and a vapour chamber with 44% coverage. The fans, when outputting maximum performance, did get loud. Playing at home isn’t an issue, but it would definitely get noticeable if trying to play in a coffee shop on Turbo. There are different performance profiles you can use through Armoury Crate, depending on what you’re playing.

Windows uses default settings, Performance and Turbo push for higher and maximum performance, while Silent is optimized for low noise. These genuinely do make a difference and perform well across the board. Silent does keep the fan much quieter and still performs well, and when you want maximum everything, Turbo is there to do exactly that.

The Zephyrus did stay mostly cool throughout, even when playing for longer sessions. The center of the keyboard did get a bit warm, with the upper section closer to the screen getting the warmest. All of this is to be expected though, given the form factor of the ROG Zephyrus G16 2026. Packing this much technology into a smaller and lighter space realistically comes with some drawbacks, but it’s so impressive that even the drawbacks are acceptable given the trade for top-tier performance.

The same extends to any other use cases. Editing on the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 is a breeze, with the powerhouse beneath the keys making every video a dream to work through. Scrolling online and using plenty of programs at once is always smooth, and watching YouTube and Netflix is gorgeous thanks to the crystal clear and vivid screen.

The Zephyrus is, by all accounts, an awesome-looking package. The entire design philosophy is centred around being as light and thin as possible without sacrificing performance. The CNC aluminum unibody feels premium and sturdy. The outer shell sports a Slash Lighting array that you can customize, or turn off, the lighting for. It features more discrete lighting zones than previous iterations, with smooth animations.

The keycaps are coated with a new Excimer UV anti-fingerprint coating that helps them stay clean and pristine, resisting smudging and oils easily. The bottom has rubber foot strips that run almost the entire length of the chassis, helping airflow for the vents on the bottom. It also weighs just 4.30 lbs, making it really light and easy to travel with.

The 2026 Zephyrus includes a new G-SYNC-enabled OLED screen that just looks gorgeous. It features a 16:10 Nebula HDR Display that uses an OLED panel for 2.5K resolution, with a 240GHz refresh rate, VRR, and 0.2ms response time. It has a peak brightness of 1100 nits and a VESA TrueBlack 1000 certification, making HDR content look incredible and detailed. The image is crystal clear and packed full of colour, and fast enough that motion looks smooth and readable. The screen is easily one of the most impressive parts of the package, one that makes anything look good.

Battery life on the ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 is also solid, with a 90Whr battery. ASUS claims that it can last between 15-20 hours depending on usage, and the 250W adapter charges it back up to 50% in 30 minutes. I’ve found that to be true, but heavier gaming sessions did run out the battery in 3-4 hours at full settings. Using the different profiles did help extend that for less demanding games.

With all this performance packed into a small body, the price tag is anything but. Prices for the ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 gaming laptop range from $3499 USD up to $5499 depending on included graphics and options. It is incredibly expensive, but similar in price to other high-end laptops. For those looking in that price range, the Zephyrus is easy to recommend, but for most, this high a price tag will be difficult. It’s not that it’s not worth it, because it very much is for the form factor and performance you’ll get out of it, but it is expensive.

Overall, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 2026 gaming laptop is an absolute beast stuffed into a compact package. It can handle basically anything you throw at it, from intense gaming sessions to complex edits, all while giving you the options to tweak performance with different profiles. It looks gorgeous too, with the new OLED screen offering constantly beautiful visuals. While it may carry a high price tag, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is easily worth it for power users looking to keep high performance even on the go.
