If you have been working with model making or 3D printing, you will know the pain it can be to clean up small areas, and this is where the HOZO NeoSander comes into the picture. This is the sort of tool that seems unnecessary until a project gives it a clear job to do. It is a small, cordless detail sander built for the awkward places that larger tools cannot reach, such as narrow gaps in a miniature, support marks on a resin print, a rough edge on acrylic or a small spot on a wood project. It is not meant to replace a full-size sander, nor should anyone buy it for broad surfaces. But within its lane, the HOZO NeoSander looks like a thoughtful and capable tool.

Unlike a Dremel or something similar, the NeoSander uses a direct-drive reciprocating linear motor instead of a rotating bit. The sanding head moves back and forth at up to 13,000 strokes per minute, with an adjustable stroke range from 0.6 mm to 1.8 mm. That short movement is the main reason the tool can work with care. It is made to take down small imperfections rather than tear through a surface in seconds.

Hozo Neosander Review

The HOZO NeoSander is incredibly light, weighing about 89 grams, and is small enough to rest comfortably in one hand. Its compact body is useful when working around fine details, especially on models and 3D prints where a rotary tool can feel oversized. Anyone who has used the HOZO NeoBlade will find the NeoSander’s look and feel familiar, as though the two tools are part of the same set. The standard set includes several options, including eight head shapes designed for flat areas, corners, curves, narrow channels and fine points, while the Premium Combo includes 64 colour-coded heads to ensure you have plenty of options ready to use.

The heads can be paired with eight sanding grades, ranging from coarse 180-grit paper to fine 1,500-grit paper. If you opt for the Premium Combo, the colour-coded system lets you keep the different grits ready to use. With the standard package, you will need to decide which grits you want prepared and which ones you will set up for each job. Thankfully, the process is straightforward, and preparing a sanding head takes only a few minutes at most. Sanding often requires moving through several grit levels, and having matching heads ready to use removes some of the slow, repetitive setup that can make small jobs feel longer than necessary.

These adhesive-backed sanding sheets must be applied to the heads before use, and this is where many users run into issues. Curved pads can take longer to fit, and I found the adhesive could begin to lift along tight bends after sitting unused. I also had issues with some sanding pads lifting from the sheets, resulting in a few being lost during use. It is not a deal-breaker, but it is a reminder that the NeoSander is a specialized system with its own consumable parts. Replacement pads are available, although users who regularly work with rough materials should expect to keep extras on hand. You will likely need them.

Hozo Neosander Review

As you can imagine, HOZO offers a wide range of grits for a sander like this, although most users will likely not need all of them. Most will probably settle on a few favourites: a flat pad for larger areas, a pointed head for detail work and a narrow edge for seams. Still, the range gives the NeoSander more versatility than a single-purpose palm sander and helps 3D prints or model work achieve a more polished final result. It is designed for specialized tasks such as cleaning up models, and it delivers. Jobs that would normally feel tedious become far more manageable and, at times, even easy.

The HOZO NeoSander uses adhesive-backed sanding sheets that must be applied to the heads before use. This is one of the less polished parts of the package. Curved pads can take longer to fit, and I found the adhesive could begin to lift along tight bends after sitting unused. It is not a deal-breaker, but it is a reminder that the NeoSander is a specialized system with its own consumable parts. Replacement pads are available, although users who regularly work with rough materials should expect to keep extras on hand.

The NeoSander’s small size and reduced vibration do not make it quiet. I tested it with a sound-level meter app on my phone and measured about 90 decibels at full speed. Depending on the material, it can get even louder. Dust is another concern and something you will need to consider before starting a project. This is a sanding tool, and wearing a mask may be a good idea depending on the material. No one wants to breathe in sanded resin particles, no matter how good the finished product looks. Trust me, during testing I managed to make quite a mess, covering the table, my hands and even the floor, so plan accordingly.

Hozo Neosander Review

At its price, the NeoSander is difficult to call essential, but it delivers on what it promises. Sanding sticks, files and basic rotary tools such as those from Dremel cost less and can still handle most hobby work, depending on your needs. For me, however, the NeoSander justifies its higher price by making a task that can be incredibly tedious feel more accessible. It can smooth support marks, clean sprue nubs, refine resin details, soften acrylic edges and handle small woodworking jobs without forcing the user to fit a large tool into a tiny space.

The HOZO NeoSander is not without its rough edges, but it delivers for hobbyists looking to improve the quality of their finished work. It is loud, its sanding sheets require patience to install, and its saw mode is more of a bonus than a main attraction. However, its core sanding performance is strong, and its compact, well-organized design makes tedious finishing work easier to manage. For model builders, makers and frequent 3D-print users, it is a smart addition to the workbench.
