Creative Director of Beyond Good and Evil 2, Emile Morel Dies at 40

Ubisoft’s creative director for Beyond Good and Evil 2, Emile Morel, has died at the age of 40.

Emile Morel has been a game designer since 2004, where he got his start at Eden Games, as a game designer for Test Drive Unlimited and Alone in the Dark. Since then, he has served as a game designer for Ubisoft and has worked on titles like Rayman Legends. Emile Morel is also credited as Beyond Good and Evil 2‘s Creative Director, and he has been a game designer at Ubisoft for 14 years.

The news broke over on IGN, where former colleagues of Emile Morel have made tributes to the late designer on LinkedIn. M. Gabrielle Shrager says “A cherished colleague for over a decade at Ubisoft Montpellier, we laughed and wept through good times and bad, and shipped a lot of great games together.
Emile was so very proud of Beyond Good and Evil 2, the Space Monkeys and his teammates. He will be sorely missed.”

On Twitter, others also lend their condolences for the late game designer. Songwriter for Beyond Good and Evil, Denisse Takes said, “Emile had a kind and loving presence. He was attentive and respectful. His laugh was infectious. I could listen to him talk for hours. An unforgettable being. Condolences to all who are suffering his loss.”

Another colleague on LinkedIn, Greg Hermittant says “Even through the most difficult times, you always remained the caring and supportive person you were with your beautiful positive mind. But the most important is the wonderful moments we had. With no doubts Rayman Legends is my best memory” about Emile Morel.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has had a turbulent development cycle, but Hermittant concludes his tribute to Emile Morel with “You will miss Beyond Good & Evil. Be assured we will continue your work,” possibly assuring the title would eventually release.
