The Ghibli Park staff were able to share an inside preview of one part of the new Ghilbi Park opening soon this fall.

Fans of the Studio Ghilbi movies from the original creator, Hayao Miyazaki will soon be able to live out their wildest Ghilbi fantasies in real life. While the Ghibli Museum has been open for some time, this new theme park will showcase some real-life Ghibli moments that visitors can relish in.

The latest footage contained a 30-second YouTube clip of Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse area—one area of the park. The park staff also announced they would be screening all 10 Ghibli no Mori no Eiga (Ghibli Forest Film) anime shorts back-to-back. These shorts used to be exclusive to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan.

Whether you were a big fan of Myazaki’s early Studio Ghibli work for Lupin III: Castle Of Cagliostro or whether you were a fan of later works like The Wind Rises, there seems to be something for everyone. The video displayed various features set in Ghibli Park’s Grand Warehouse—all from each of the 13 different Ghibli movies. For example, there was a full-scale replica of “No-Face” from Spirited Away shown sitting.

There were other sets depicting dining scenes from the films as well—along with posters, books and other memorabilia from the Ghibli films. And lastly, they showed off the merch store where visitors can purchase official-licensed goods based on the Ghibli work, and there will also be a café where guests can actually order the castella Siberia cake from the film, The Wind Rises.

As part of the grand opening, Ghibli Park will be showing these 10 shorts in the Cinema Orion theater (which can seat up to 170 audience members) at Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse:

  • 2001    The Whale Hunt
  • 2001    Koro’s Big Day Out
  • 2002    Mei and the Baby Cat Bus
  • 2006    House Hunting
  • 2006    The Day I Bought a Star
  • 2006    Mon Mon the Water Spider
  • 2010    A Sumo Wrestler’s Tail
  • 2010    Mr. Dough and the Egg Princess
  • 2011    Treasure Hunting
  • 2018    Boro the Caterpillar

Ghibli Park will be welcoming tourists as the park itself will open in three different phases. Phase 1 will have three areas to explore on the grounds. The “Hill of Youth” will have a complete replica recreation of the antique shop from Whisper of the Heart—here, visitors would be able to overlook the entire park.

“Dondoko Forest” is expected to be a children’s area where the younger visitors would be quite entertained as they are able to journey into Satsuki and Mei’s house from My Neighbor Totoro. Lastly, visitors can partake in all kinds of shopping, dining and sightseeing in the newly announced Ghibli’s Grand Warehouse.

Phase 1 of Ghibli Park’s opening has been set for November 1, 2022. It has been built in the Aichi Prefecture, allowing guests to immerse themselves into the Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki built world without any sort of large attractions or rides.
