Yesterday afternoon, Jonathan Majors was found guilty of assault and harassment from charges he faced back in March, and Marvel has dropped the actor from his upcoming roles in response.
A jury of six convicted Jonathan Majors of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment on Monday after the actor faced charges from an altercation with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari, way back in March. Like other actors who have faced a courtroom, Majors himself declined to testify, but the victim, Jabbari, was able to describe in detail the nature of the altercation with Majors that left her with bodily injuries. The Hollywood Reporter says the verdict was found after over four hours of deliberation spread across three days, and Majors will face sentencing on February 6.
It’s worth noting the jury acquitted Majors of two counts on the indictment because prosecutors had not adequately shown Jonathan Majors acted with intent in the incident. The remaining two charges Majors was found guilty of — a misdemeanour and a violation — means he faces a sentence of up to one year in prison.
Grace Jabbari detailed the nature of Majors’ crimes in the four-day period where she testified against him in court. She allegedly tried to snatch a phone from Jonathan Majors, who removed her hand from the phone, grabbed her arm and right hand, twisted her forearm and struck her head to get the phone away from her. An evidential video played in the courtroom of Majors pushing Jabbari back into the vehicle after the exchange, in which the defence argued that was to stop Jabbari from running into traffic.
While Jonathan Majors does face up to a year in prison when he is sentenced on February 6, Marvel has already decided to fire Majors in light of the guilty verdict. Majors’ attorney, Priya Chaudhry, said in a statement after the verdict, “looks forward to fully clearing his name,” including “Mr. Majors is grateful to God, his family, his friends, and his fans for their love and support during these harrowing eight months.”
Jonathan Majors had not commented publicly regarding the decision.
