Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness Mode Details Revealed

Publisher Spike Chunsoft has revealed two modes for its upcoming anime-licensed action RPG title, Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness.

Alongside the news of Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darknessrelease, Spike Chunsoft has shared details on the game’s two modes. The first mode is called ‘Hello Abyss’ where players will experience the game’s story adapted from manga/anime. As the main character, players will be joined by three other students, Raul, a boy who’s always full of energy, the quiet and inconspicuous Tiare, and Dorothea, who’s a bit of an airhead, — together in their first exploration as ‘Red Whistles’ they’ll discover the harsh reality of the Abyss.

The other mode, ‘Deep Abyss’ is a totally new story where players play from the perspective of a new Cave Raider as they take on the challenge to explore the Abyss. Players will experience the game’s original story in the series’ very first licensed video game, take on “main quests, collect relics, and complete various quests to earn rewards such as money and experience to develop your character.” The more things you do in the game will reward you with experience which will increase your Cave Raider’s level — the higher the level, the more you can challenge deeper levels of the Abyss.

The game takes place in the home hub of the town of Orth, the base for Cave Raiders which will help prepare players for the difficult challenges ahead of the Abyss “by taking on quests and buying the necessities for your raid.” Players will receive assignments from Jiruo at Belchero Orphanage, at first players will be limited but the more you complete will also increase the number of assignments that come in. More of Orth’s facilities are listed below.

  • Guild HQ
    • This is the headquarters of the organization that provides work to Cave Raiders. Various quests can be accepted.
  • Supply Shop
    • A store that sells cave raiding essentials. Besides pickaxes, clothes and consumables are sold here.
  • Relic Appraisal
    • A store that appraises and buys relics brought back from The Abyss. Obtain money and experience here.
  • Laffi’s Store
    • A spice store run by Hablog’s wife Laffi. Purchase food and spices here.

Made In Abyss originally started off as a manga by Akihito Tsukushi which was later adapted into an anime in 2017. The story follows from the perspective of Riko, an orphan who lives in an orphanage close to the Abyss. The Abyss is a giant hole in the planet where artifacts from past civilizations can be found, but it’s not that easy to go into, as anyone who decides to dive into the Abyss will become infected by a curse the more they explore.

Later on, the Made in Abyss anime would be adapted into a compilation movie in 2019 and an original film in 2020. Five years after the original anime, Made in Abyss season two is officially happening and is premiering starting tomorrow as a part of this summer’s season of simulcast anime on HIDIVE.

Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness is set to recreate the events of the Made in Abyss series when it releases on PC (via Steam), PS4, and Nintendo Switch on September 2nd.
