Nintendo responds to reports of 3DS complaints

Capcom launches new IP with Dragon's Dogma 3

The company says the number of complaints has actually been lower than expected.

The British newspaper The Sun recently created a bit of controversy with a story suggesting that “thousands” of customers had been forced to return the new Nintendo 3DS.

“Furious gamers made ill by Nintendo’s new 3DS console have been REFUSED full refunds,” wrote The Sun. “Record return levels were reported after thousands suffered headaches and dizziness.”

The article goes on to cite two anecdotal examples. Nintendo, however, has already responded to the story with a statement issued to Eurogamer, and it seems to be much ado about nothing.

“Recent reports are incorrect,” said a Nintendo representative. “The number of calls and emails with queries on Nintendo 3DS is in fact well below the rate experienced during past hardware launches and having spoken with our retail partners there are only a handful of people who have actually gone into to stores to request a refund.”

British retailers GAME and HMV have since verified Nintendo’s statement. HMV, for instance, says that the “thousands” refer to overall trade in numbers, while GAME says, “We’ve had less than five people complain that they feel sick and want to return [the 3DS].”

The 3DS became the fastest-selling Nintendo handheld in UK history with 113,000 sales during its first weekend on shelves.
