Outcast: A New Beginning Announces March 2024 Release Slot 1

THQ Nordic revealed today that Outcast: A New Beginning would be out on March 15, 2024, following the combat trailer released two weeks ago.

From the devs/publishers behind the Darksiders and Destroy All Humans! games, THQ Nordic revealed the release date for another classic comeback. The team tweeted out that Outcast: A New Beginning will be coming out on March 15, 2024, after showing off some of the combat gameplay a couple of weeks ago. Players should be excited to finally see a sequel to this open world, sci-fi action-adventure game that defined the genre. Cutter Slade is back baby!

Players will jump right back in playing as the original protagonist Cutter, as he returns to the alien planet Adelpha. He is there to help the local Talans fend off invading humanoid robots and the mystery to why he was sent back there will also be uncovered. The game was original announced back in 2021 as Outcast 2: A New Beginning, but developer Appeal Studios dropped the “2” to make the game more approachable.

“We really want to make this approachable and accessible for everybody,” producer Andreas Schmiedecker told Eurogamer at a digital preview event last week. “We want to emphasise that you don’t have to have played the first one, you don’t need to know the story [of the original game].” This would make a lot of sense since the original Outcast game was released by Appeal Studios back in 1999. The team had a sequel game called Outcast II: The Lost Paradise lined up for a 2001-02 release, but was never finished due to bankruptcy. In a more recent update in 2017, the game’s remake was called Outcast: Second Contact.

This drummed up some hype from the cult following, which has now become the hype for Outcast: A New Beginning. With the more-cutting edge capabilities of the modern gaming industry, the devs have talked about how they want to build out more of this world. Executive producer Michael Paeck said the expected playtime is 30 to 35 hours to get through the story, but there’s plenty of side-missions in the open-world to spend time on.

The great news came from Schmiedecker who commented that We really want to keep it light in the sense that you don’t have to optimise your build, or think about numbers, or grind for resources and whatnot. We don’t want to artificially pad runtime, we want you to get to the fun easily.” Generally, it seems like the team wanted to create a tighter, fun and more open experience to those who are not familiar with the cult classic game.

Outcast: A New Beginning will be out on March 15, 2024. It will cost $59.99 on PC, and $69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
