Playstack, the publisher behind games like Unbeatable and the smash hit Balatro, has been purchased by Integrated Media Company (IMC) — an investment group that also owns brands like Fandom, GameSpot, and Fanatical.
As reported by Game Developer, Playstack owner TruFin announced the sale on May 21, 2026, telling investors it agreed to sell its 84.5 percent stake in the company to VantageCo (an IMC subsidiary) for roughly £112.4 million ($151 million). In a statement, James van den Bergh, CEO of TruFin, said, “We believe the disposal of Playstack represents a milestone for TruFin and a clear demonstration of our disciplined approach to capital allocation and value creation. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the Playstack team over the last few years and look forward to them achieving future success. IMC is a superb platform for the next stage in Playstack’s journey, and we wish the team at IMC well for the future.”
The deal is, of course, subject to shareholder approval and values the company at around £125 million ($169 million). Playstack’s CEO, Harvey Elliot, also commented on the sale by saying,
“I’m excited to share that Playstack is entering its next chapter with a new investment partner. In practical terms, this is a change in ownership rather than a change in who we are. Our team, our strategy, and our commitment to publishing premium indie games remain exactly the same. For now, it’s business as usual.
I sincerely thank TruFin for being an invaluable partner over the past seven years, helping us reach this exciting next step. I’m looking forward to sharing more about the future with you all soon.”
Playstack has, obviously, become best known as the studio behind the Poker-inspired game Balatro, which quickly became a viral hit in 2024. But the studio also has a number of upcoming games, including Lorn Vale, About Fishing, and Mortal Shell 2.
