PlayStation 5 Showcase Set For September 16th

Sony Interactive Entertainment will host a PlayStation 5 Showcase on September 16th at 1:00 p.m. PT/4:00 p.m. ET.

The PlayStation Blog’s stated intent with this event is to give fans one last look at some of the games coming to PS5 at launch (which they reaffirm as “this holiday”) and later on. The showcase will run for about 40 minutes and feature “updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.” You will be able to watch it at PlayStation.com, YouTube, and Twitch.

This news comes a scant few days after Microsoft finally confirmed prices and a November 10th release date for its new Xbox consoles: a $499 USD tag for the more powerful Xbox Series X and a lower $299 USD price point for the less powerful, digital-only Xbox Series S (which had been detailed in leaks and rumors prior to the confirmation as the “Lockhart”).

Until that point, both companies had been playing a very frustrating game of chicken regarding pricing and release dates, seemingly wary of announcing first as the holidays drew closer. We don’t know if Sony is going to announce the PS5’s price and release date here, but it seems ridiculous not to. Also of note: it appears that a new black version of the PS5 and DualSense controller are being used to promote this event.

The PlayStation 5 Showcase will be on September 16th at 1:00 p.m. PT/4:00 p.m. ET.
