All Past Pokémon Starters Confirmed for Scarlet and Violet DLC

Nostalgia Is Super Effective

New Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC Adds All Past Starters 1

The trailer for the first part of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC contained details on returning Pokémon starters from past generations.

As the Pokémon World Championships 2023 wrapped up this weekend in Yokohama, Japan, a brand new trailer was released for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC called The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero. The trailer showed off some new moves: two confirmed Pokémon and a new Terra type. Most importantly, it revealed the reintroduction of all the Starter Pokémon from previous generations, a first for Nintendo Switch.

The two new moves shown were the Fighting-type “Upper Hand,” which always moves first, even if a priority move is used on the Pokémon, and will cause the opponent to flinch. Then, the second move was the Psychic-type “Psychic Noise,” which stops the opponent from using healing moves such as Rest, healing items or abilities. After teasing the new Paradox Pokémon in the last trailer, Raging Bolt, the Raikou paradox, and Iron Crown, the Cobalion paradox, were confirmed with their types revealed to be Electric/Dragon and Steel Psychic, respectively.

New Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Dlc Adds All Past Starters 2

“Past first partner Pokémon are appearing in spades,” the trailer states, suggesting the starters can be encountered and caught in the wild. The trailer also showed off all of the starters alongside Terastallized versions of Venusaur, Primarina and Blaziken. This would be the first time all starters from previous generations can be caught in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet rather than obtained through a Tera Raid or breeding and trading.

Apparently, the starters will also presumably be compatible with Pokémon Home once the DLC releases, meaning anyone who has caught them in previous games can hopefully transfer them to Scarlet and Violet. In addition, Mythical Pokémon Shaymin seems to have been confirmed for the DLC, as the official Pokémon account on Twitter shared pictures of the returning starters in Scarlet and Violet with Shaymin happily sitting alongside them.

The first part of the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Teal Mask, is set to release on September 13, with the second, The Indigo Disk, in Winter 2023 with an unconfirmed date so far.
