Pokemon Snap Is the Next Game to Join Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online is set to get another classic game, as Pokemon Snap arrives on June 24.

Keep in mind that you’ll need the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in order to play it. The Expansion Pack costs $49.99 a year or $79.99 for a family plan, and grants access to more classic games on top of expansion packs like the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass and the Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion.

Pokemon Snap was first released in 1999 and takes players to Pokemon Island, where the goal, as you might expect, is to take photos of the various wild Pokemon. It quickly became one of the most popular Pokemon spinoffs, as it showed the creatures going about their daily lives.

Pokemon Snap’s gameplay takes you through various on-rails segments as you try and take pictures at the right time to capture Pokemon behaviours and poses. There’s another puzzle-solving layer to the game, however, as you can use objects to interact with Pokemon, prompting new events to happen. A sequel to the game, New Pokemon Snap, was released for Nintendo Switch in 2021 and features a slew of new features, Pokemon, and a gorgeous new art style. Here’s the official description for New Pokemon Snap,

“Seek out and take in-game photographs of Pokémon in their native environments in the New Pokémon Snap™ game, only for the Nintendo Switch™ system! Snap photos from the NEO-ONE as you you encounter and research lively wild Pokémon. You might see unexpected expressions or behaviors—Pokémon patrolling their territory, playing, or lurking in out-of-the-way spots.”

The original Pokemon Snap is now the 16th Nintendo 64 title to be added to Switch Online, and the first retro Pokemon game to be added.
