PS5 Pro Reportedly Launching In Late 2024 Insiders Claim

A Pro Move

Auto Draft

Following in the footsteps of the PS4 development cycle, the PS5 Pro is reportedly in the works and it could appear on store shelves far sooner than one would expect, late 2024.

The report comes from Giant Bomb‘s Jeff Grubb on the latest episode of Game Mess Decides, where speculation on the next version of the PlayStation 5, the PS5 Pro will arrive. Grubb goes into extraneous details that accentuate the existence of a PS5 Pro in development. On top of that, a post from user Modiz on Resetera corroborates his claims, including more information about the apparent new console revamp in the works.

The Game Mess Decides episode can be seen below, he starts speaking on the PS5 Pro and how he ‘definitely confirms’ the leaks are real (timestamp 24:40).

While Grubb speculates about many things during this episode (including a multiplayer Insomniac Spider-Man title) the speculation on the PS5 Pro has been compounded with previous leaks and reports back in July from Key to Gaming‘s Tom Henderson, as well as Sony themselves. The PS5 Pro is codenamed ‘Trinity’ and previous consoles-in-development at Sony have been named after The Matrix characters before, the PS4 Pro was codenamed ‘Neo’ and the PS VR went by ‘Morpheus’.

While the previous leaks are detailed in the Resetera post, they get into the nitty gritty with advanced details such as system-on-a-chip details, as well as detailing the CPU is based on zen2 architecture. While the reports claim the PS5 Pro CPU upgrade is “small,” Grubb infers the main reasoning behind the mid-gen upgrade is to grant users image solutions like 2x ray tracing.

Grubb says “The big feature that this system will support, is Sony’s own proprietary DLSS-like solution, where they use their own machine learning to improve images so they can run things at a really high resolution and really high frame rate, and they would include their own hardware in the PS5 Pro to do this,” concluding with “So yeah, this thing is probably happening.” It’s worth mentioning the Game Mess Decides podcast has also speculated about an “Xbox Next” release in 2026, which so far has been unsubstantiated or unconfirmed as well.

The alleged launch date for the PS5 Pro is in September 2024, but consumers should take the information with a grain of salt. Although there is a lot of circumstantial evidence for the mid-gen upgrade, fans should err on the side of caution before taking these details as fact, as nothing is confirmed until Sony announces the PS5 Pro themselves. Readers can rest assured we will cover an official announcement the moment it is made.
