Quakecon 2013 Reveals Tournament Lineup, Carmack To Speak For Second Time - 2013-08-14 11:34:50

Quake Live competitors the world over will battle for dominance in a series of tournaments at QuakeCon 2013.


The Intel Quake Live Duel Invitational Masters Championship will feature notable professionals and top Quake Live competitors in an exclusive tournament. The tournament staff will select 32 of the world’s best Quake Live players from online registration; these players will face against one another in a double-elimination bracket for the prize of $18,000. Each match will be played in a best-of-three-games format. The remaining two contestants will duke it out in best-of-five games throw-down to determine the winner of a $9,000 cheque.

In the Quake Live Clan Arena 3v3 Open, up to 32 participants will battle in three-versus-three competitions in a single-elimination bracket and best-of-three-games format. The top two teams will advance to the best-of-five Grand Final. Victorious teams will be awarded $6,000, including $3,000 for the team of champions.

Anniversary Doom Challenge combines nostalgia and competition, as the tournament will feature old-school Doom II gaming. In addition to vying for the $1,000 champion prize, players will also compete in 16-player free-for-all matches, qualifying 32 players for the single-elimination bracket. Each match is played in a best-of-three games format.

Anniversary Doom Challenge is on a first-come, first-served basis. Also, participants would have to register on-site at QuakeCon 2013 on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 10 A.M. to 3 P.M. Central.

Also, id Software co-founder and technical director John Carmack will give a second talk at QuakeCon 2013. Adding on to his annual keynote address, which takes place on Aug. 1, Carmack will enlighten attendees on the physics of light transport and rendering in his suitably titled session, “The Physics of Light and Rendering”. The session happens on Friday, Aug. 2 at 5 P.M. Central.
