QuakeCon: The Woodstock of Gaming 4

QuakeCon will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year from July 23 to 26.

Held at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas in Dallas, Texas, it will showcase the work of Bethesda and id Software while hosting a number of activities.

First created in 1996, QuakeCon is an annual event held by ZeniMax. Every year, a four day bring your own computer videogame tournament is held, and is considered to be the largest LAN party in North America according to Bethesda. Often referred to as the “Woodstock of video gaming”, the event brings together people to celebrate videogames and their players.

The Quake Live Tri-Master Tournament will have 16 teams of four competing in games like Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, and Duel. The top teams will share a prize of $32,000, and top two duelers picked by their teams will compete to win another $8,000 and the title of Grand Master Champion. The full rules can be found here.

QuakeCon isn’t restricted to tournaments. There are activities for people who don’t compete too.

This year there will be a panel discussion with id Software’s development team on DOOM; ZaniMax Online Studios developers of The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited will talk about the game; and a presentation of Fallout 4 from Bethesda Game Studios’ Game Director, Todd Howard. Howard will be showing off an exclusive Fallout 4 demo for people who attend.

Game publishers, retailers, and collectible card games hosted tournaments will be featured in the Tabletop Village. Level 99 Games, Japanime Games, and Magic: The Gathering are some of the big names that will be there. Tournaments include Pixel Tactics, Friday Night Magic, and Ticket to Ride.

The end of QuakeCon will be celebrated with the Tournament Finals Party on Saturday night.
