Report: New Version Of The Nintendo Switch Coming Next Year

A new Nintendo Switch model is being planned for release next year, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.

The report explains that the new version of the Nintendo Switch would be released to maintain the sales. As for the specifics on hardware and software, the report suggests that Nintendo is still working on them and weighing the costs.

One of the options revealed, however, is an improvement on the display, since the current Nintendo Switch uses a liquid-crystal one. This improvement on the display would put the new Nintendo Switch in competition with the more recent and standard technologies found in smartphones.

The update would also make the display “brighter, thinner and more energy-efficient.” However, it is not expected to be the same OLED panels used for the Apple iPhone X series.

The reports also describes how the new model will “likely share many features with the current version and be compatible with existing Switch game software.”

According to The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is hoping to release the new model either as soon as the summer of next year, or sometime in the latter half of 2019.
