WSJ: Nintendo Has No Plans to Upgrade Their Switch Console 1

Fans hoping for a Nintendo Switch XL or a New Nintendo Switch Mini console are in for some disappointment.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo is not interested in releasing new versions of their Nintendo Switch hardware but is instead is focusing on creating new peripherals for the console. A peripheral device is something that is related to a product, like a printer to a computer, that expands the functionality of the product.

As for what the peripherals will look like, Nintendo previously announced their first such product, The Nintendo Labo. Labo is a cardboard construction kit that has players building different controllers and add-ons for the Nintendo Switch console. These add-ons include fishing rods, pianos, RC cars, and even a full robot suit. You can learn more about The Nintendo Labo here.

The Kyoto based company has previously released different versions of consoles, most notably with their 3DS handheld line. Since the 3Ds launched back in 2011, they have released an XL version of the system as well as a 2D incarnation and a number of versions with better graphics and 3D capabilities.

The Nintendo Switch has been doing exceeding well since its launch in March of last year. The console has sold over 15 million units as of January 2018 and is on track to rival the sales of the highly successful Nintendo Wii.
