After nearly 30 years, LucasArts has unveiled a major announcement today, the Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster. Along with revealing the remaster of the 1995 cult classic, they have also announced the game’s official release date.

Star Wars: Dark Forces was released WAY back in 1995, and it has developed a cult following since then. Fans have been begging the internet gods to bring the title back at some capacity for what feels like since then, and today, LucasArts has answered the prayers of the fans who have asked. Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is officially on the way, and not only does it have a release date, but it comes with a reveal trailer that can be seen below.

Nightdive Studios is helming the remaster, and it is developed in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and fully remastered through their KEX engine (moving on from the previously used Jedi Game Engine used in 1995). The remaster also boasts a silky smooth 120 FPS, complete with achievement and PlayStation trophy support at launch, for those who hunt for accolades while playing.

The title sees the player fill the boots of gun-for-hire Kyle Katarn, who while working for the Rebel Alliance, stumbles upon a secret “Dark Trooper Project” deployed by the Galactic Empire. The title takes place after the fall of the Galactic Republic, so yes, spoiler alert, Darth Vader is in the game. The original gameplay for Star Wars: Dark Forces looked and felt a lot like the original Doom from 1993, except Dark Forces Katarn was able to look up and down. Fans were able to explore iconic Star Wars locations like the planet that doubles as a city, Coruscant, and the interior of a full-fledged Star Destroyer.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster arrives on February 28, 2024, for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series S/X, PS5, and PC. Fans can head to the official site for more gaming news, such as more Star Wars content coming to Minecraft in the near future and much more.
