With Thor: Love and Thunder coming out soon, the Marvel Cinematic Universe boss, Kevin Fiege shares what the future may hold for the character, Thor.
With Chris Hemsworth reprising his role of Thor for the ninth on-screen performance in Thor: Love and Thunder, the question remains: when will Thor’s story end? The Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige revealed in a recent press conference for the latest film that there may be “lots” more Thor stories to tell.
Fiege told the press: “Well, there are these things called comic books that have a lot of stories in them – and that’s where all of our stories come from. And the question is, ‘Have you told all the great Thor stories from the comics in movies? ‘ The answer is no. There are lots of them.” With the tease of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster character returning as Mighty Thor, this could have been a great full-circle end for the character.
However, there appears to be a lot left in the think tank for the popular Asgardian. Of course, we do not know if the new Loki from Loki will be able to see the current Thor now at some point. There is also the Beta Ray Bill storyline from the comics that could take place in the future.
The MCU boss continued: “I’ve always said our interest in making additional stories is somewhat about continuing the character, [but] it’s almost entirely about continuing the experience with the actor. I think of all of our cast, not as their individual characters, but as the Marvel players who within that character can grow and evolve and change. And if we look at the comics as our guide, there are plenty of other incarnations of Thor that we have yet to see.”
There have not been any further details for the exact future projects Hemsworth will be taking on as the lovable Asgardian, but Feige teased big announcements would be revealed at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con near the end of the month (July 21-24). Feige shared: “It’s the first time since we were on stage there three years ago talking about this movie and many others…Now I think almost everything that we discussed three years ago has been released, so we’re excited to go and talk about the future.”
Feige told the press this news after stating how the future of the MCU will be clearer soon, hinting that Thor: Love and Thunder may play a role in that. He said, “As we’re nearing the end of Phase 4, I think people will start to see where this next saga is going… I think there have been many clues already, that are at least apparent to me, of where this whole saga is going. But we’ll be a little more direct about that in the coming months, to set a plan, so audiences who want to see the bigger picture can see a tiny, tiny, tiny bit more of the roadmap.”
I am definitely someone who loves to see the roadmap and predict how the next projects in the lineup will be building up to climatic moments in the comics. While reading these cinematic moments were different when the comics were releasing weekly or monthly, the MCU has been reigniting that enjoyment for me. I can always expect great entertainment and decent writing from Marvel Studios and cannot wait to hear more on Feige’s announcements at Comic Con.
