Fans of Rockstar Games’ acclaimed crime simulator have been waiting eagerly for 13 years for the next installment in the series. That excitement continues to grow as Grand Theft Auto VI debuts its official launch trailer.
The trailer dropped on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel, giving anyone who may have missed the Netflix-exclusive Extended Look a better sense of the game’s tone and vibe. It highlights Jason’s past in the military before being pulled into a life of crime, and gives the game the tone of a crime thriller film—highlighting the action, tragic romance and high stakes that envelop the two protagonists.
The trailer also featured the song “Flower in a Hurricane” from Justice—the electronic duo who composed the entire score for Grand Theft Auto VI—and featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. In addition to this, the launch trailer came alongside more news surrounding 2026’s most anticipated game will be included in this year’s The Game Awards. According to the official website for The Game Awards, the cutoff for eligibility consideration is November 20th, 2026. However, since Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19th, it was able to come in just under the wire and be included for awards nominations.
There have been a plethora of rumours floating around about Grand Theft Auto VI—outside of all the pre-release leaks. Gamers are questioning a potential Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game, after President of Nintendo of America Devon Pritchard didn’t rule the possibility out, saying in an interview with Variety, “That’s going to be a conversation for Take-Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.” Alongside this, Gamesbeat has apparently confirmed that the game’s PC release will land somewhere in Q1 of 2027.
CGMagazine will have more coverage on Grand Theft Auto VI when it launches for PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X|S.
