5 Best Ads From Super Bowl 2024: Deadpool, IF, Twisters 1

Here are some of the biggest Super Bowl 2024 teasers and trailers from some heavy-hitting movies coming soon to theatres.

While many football fans were watching the Super Bowl this year for their favourite teams or to see the cuts to Taylor Swift, others also enjoyed the TV broadcast for its trailer drops. There were a lot of great trailers this year, definitely many on the comedic side, from a first look at the Wicked movies to Deadpool 3 (officially titled Deadpool & Wolverine). Here are some of the best movie trailers that aired last night’s big game.

5. IF Big Game Spot

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, Cailey Fleming, John Krasinski, Fiona Shaw, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr., Alan Kim, and Liza Colón-Zayas. This 30-second spot continued to lean into The Office pun with Randall Park as Krasinski…I mean, Randall Park who? And it Reynolds. The film focuses on Fleming who plays a young girl who can see people’s imaginary friends and works to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids. The film opens in theaters May 17 2024.

4. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Official Trailer

“Apes strong together!” A new full, two and a half minute trailer revealed the detailed plot for the fourth film in this franchise. It will be the first one directed by Wes Ball, following the Matt Reeves trilogy. This was probably one of the longest slots taken for the Super Bowl 2024 broadcast. Kingdom of the PLanet of the Apes will be out in theaters on May 10, 2024.

3. Twisters Official Trailer

The Top Gun: Maverick and Anyone But You star Glen Powell continues to show off his acting chops in the upcoming sequel to the 1996 thriller Twister. He will be taking on the mantle of Bill Paxton’s role a little, as he “leads “tornado wrangles” a team of new storm chasers. As the title and trailer suggest, it is not just one huge tornado anymore, but two massive ones! Daisy Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing) and Anthony Ramos (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) join Powell in this new film directed by Lee Isaac Chung (Minari).

2. Wicked | First Look

Jon M. Chu returns to direct another spectacular musical ensemble starring Cynthia Enrivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum and more! This first look was a big surprise at the Super Bowl this year, especially with the announcement that it will be broken into two parts. The film is based on the same stage musical, and this teaser was a magnificent taste of what is to come. Wicked is scheduled for release on November 27, 2024, and Wicked: Part Two is expected to release in 2025.

1. Deadpool & Wolverine Teaser

Probably everyone’s highlight Super Bowl ad of the year, finally fans can speculate a lot less as what is to come in the third installment in the Deadpool film franchise. The self-proclaimed “Marvel Jesus” is back with Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool at the forefront. The Merc with a Mouth returns for his sequel, but just another sequel, a Marvel Studios sequel. And what better way to grace his first appearance in the MCU then by bringing back Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, who supposedly retired the character in 2017’s Logan.

The trailer revealed the official title of the film and that Succession star Matthew Macfadyen will join both co-stars. His character also introduced a major plot point for this film: how Deadpool & Wolverine will be dealing with the TVA (a time bureau introduced in the Loki Disney+ series). The film also got some extra marketing with Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, chilling right next to Taylor Swift and Ice Spice in her box at the Super Bowl. Deadpool & Wolverine will be out in theatres on July 26, 2024.

As always, I always bring some bonuses to these lists! Some notable non-movie trailers that had many of us all laughing were the Uber Eats ad and the Dunkin’ Donuts ad. The Uber Eats ad followed Friends star Jennifer Aniston being reunited with her old cast mate David Schwimmer but funnily did not recognize him as the ad brought attention to forgetfulness. The Dunkin’ Donuts ad was even wilder with Ben Affleck at the helm, trying to form a boy band called “The DunKings.” This hilarious ad also included Jennifer Lopez, Matt Damon, Tom Brady and Jack Harlow.
