Alan Wake 2 Casts Shawn Ashmore as New Character Tim Breaker

Alan Wake 2, a sequel 13 years in the making, is just around the corner from release in October, and Remedy Entertainment is sharing a wealth of new details, including announcing that Shawn Ashmore (Bobby Drake in X2: X-Men United) will be playing a new character named Tim Breaker.

The news was announced by Remedy Creative Director Sam Lake, who uploaded a short video of Ashmore on Twitter, where he says, “Personally, I’ve been waiting to play Alan Wake 2 since I finished the first game I don’t know how many years ago.”

This isn’t the first time Ashmore has worked with Remedy, however, as he played the role of Jack Joyce, the main character of the 2016 action game Quantum Break.

What’s interesting here is that Lake himself, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, said that certain games are not part of the Remedy Universe. For those who don’t know, Remedy’s games take place in a connected multiverse, with the most obvious links being between Control and Alan Wake.

“The easy, clear answer is that, out of our past games, Max Payne and Quantum Break are not part of the Remedy Connected Universe. They are not part of Remedy’s plans,” said Lake. “That being said, in a purely speculative, Easter egg kind of way, I do love the idea of enabling our audience to come up with theories. I don’t want to shoot them down on that level. We are making questions possible and giving ideas to people that they can then form their own theories.”

Despite Quantum Break not being part of Remedy Universe, Lake has previously hinted that certain games may create “echoes” within future projects. So even if characters aren’t canon, we might see similarities, such as Alan Wake 2’s Alex Casey bearing a lot of similarities to Max Payne himself (including being played by Sam Lake).

That idea of echoes could play into Ashmore’s new character, who might have similarities to Jack Joyce. At the same time, Remedy also recently revealed a new character named Mr. Door, who was mentioned in Control and bears some similarity to another character from Quantum Break, Martin Hatch.

Recently, at gamescom, Remedy shared a new trailer for Alan Wake 2, giving us a first glimpse of Alan’s gameplay in the Dark Place.

Alan Wake 2 launches on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
