This summer’s video game festivities are wrapping up with gamescom’s Opening Night Live today showcasing several new trailers and more!
Similar to how this Summer’s video game announcements began with Summer Game Fest—hosted by prolific frontman and ex-journalist Geoff Keighley—gamescom brought Geoff back to kick off their giant, European conference with a bang with tons of new trailers and more lined up to get everything primed with his Opening Night Live 2023 showcase. With looks at the recently-revealed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and much more lined up, fans can get excited to see what might be coming to platforms for the rest of the year!
Starfield
Starting off with a musical performance of one of the songs from the show, Starfield got a live-action trailer ahead of its September 6th, 2023 launch for gamescom Opening Night Live 2023. Todd Howard—the Game Director and Studio Head at Bethesda—got on stage to talk a bit more about the game as well.
Little Nightmares III
The third, horrifying title in the Little Nightmares series was revealed, with a 2024 release window. The Sound of Nightmares podcast was also announced by the development team.
Black Myth: Wukong
Black Myth: Wukong received a gameplay trailer for its upcoming action-adventure RPG from developer Game Science—the game will be available in 2024.
Killing Floor III
Killing Floor III was announced and is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S—all shown at gamescom Opening Night Live 2023, with gory monsters in a cinematic trailer.
Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition
Age of Empires IV: Anniversary Edition got an all-new trailer with the announcement that it’s now available on Xbox consoles starting today!
Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon
Zack Snyder got on stage to talk a little bit about his upcoming Netflix show—Rebel Moon—with a collaboration for a mobile game coming from Super Evil Megacorp and a first look at the show’s very first teaser trailer.
Crimson Desert
Crimson Desert showed off a gameplay update trailer for those who have been waiting for a new update on the game’s upcoming release.
Payday 3
Rapper Ice-T voiced the trailer for the upcoming heist shooter, while also revealing he would play a part in the upcoming game. The game launches on September 21st, 2023.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
The next installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise got a story trailer, taking players across the streets of Baghdad. The game launches on October 5th, 2023.
Tekken 8
The developers got on stage to detail the new Story Mode called Arcade Quest, while showing off more of what players can expect from the upcoming fighting game in an all-new trailer—the release date was announced as January 26th, 2024.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III
Sledgehammer Games gave a deeper look at the newly-announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, touting its “largest Zombies mode ever” while also discussing their new campaign innovation called Open Combat Missions, where players get to play the mission in different ways, using stealth or hitting the enemy head-on, for example. A long look at gameplay was also shown.
Nightingale
Inflexion Games announced Nightingale is set to release into Early Access on February 22nd, 2024, via Steam and Epic Game Store and the upcoming horror title got an all-new trailer.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink

Immortals of Aveum
A launch trailer was shown for Immortals of Aveum at gamescom Opening Night Live 2023.

The First Descendant
NEXON revealed a new trailer for The First Descendant at gamescom ONL 2023 showcasing the game’s lore as well as all-new Unreal Engine 5.2 gameplay. An Open Beta will be available on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S starting September 19th, 2023 through the 25th.
Under The Waves
Under The Waves received a launch trailer during the show—coming August 29th, 2023.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty got a New Ways To Play trailer, showing off some of the new features, while a developer made the stage to discuss those features. It was announced the 2.0 Update is on the way for the base game as well, which will include many of these features.
